HASTINGS— Dozens of semi trucks will take to the streets of Hastings this Saturday (September 20) as part of the Special Olympics “World’s Largest Truck Convoy.” The annual event brings together professional truck drivers, Special Olympics athletes, and local law enforcement to raise awareness and support for Special Olympics Nebraska.
Activities begin Friday evening at the Adams County Fairgrounds. Starting at 5:30 PM, the public is invited to enjoy food, music, a kickball game with athletes, drivers, and law enforcement officers, along with awards presented to participants.
The convoy itself kicks off Saturday morning with an opening ceremony at 9 AM. The first truck will roll out at 10 AM, leading a procession that travels south on Highway 281 before looping through town and returning to the fairgrounds.
After the trucks return, a lunch, awards presentation, and auction will take place.
Local law enforcement is playing a major role in the event with the Hastings Police Department, Adams County Sheriff’s Office, and Nebraska State Patrol all lending support to the convoy.
This local convoy is part of a nationwide effort to highlight the partnership between truck drivers and law enforcement in supporting Special Olympics athletes.
