Tonight’s Powerball jackpot increased due to high sales

LINCOLN— The Multi-State Lottery Association has stated that due to high sales, tonight’s (Wednesday, September 3) estimated jackpot amount for the Powerball drawing has increased to an estimated $1.4 billion or $634.3 million with the cash option selected.

The search for a jackpot winner has been happening since June 2, with no winner in 40 consecutive Powerball drawings. The jackpot starts at $20 million and continues to grow each drawing until it is won.

Ten jackpots between $2.5 million and $365 million have been won in Nebraska since Powerball started being offered in July of 1994. The largest jackpot won in the state was $365 million in February 2006 when a group of eight coworkers at the ConAgra Foods ham and corned beef plant in Lincoln split the winnings.

Know Your Limit

Because of the high Powerball jackpot, the Nebraska Lottery encourages customers to set limits and play within their means. “It’s important for Nebraska Lottery players to remember that no matter how large the jackpot is, the odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are 1 in 292 million,” said Lottery Director Brian Rockey. “Your odds of winning remain the same, regardless of how many tickets are purchased or how many people play.” Visit nelottery.com/knowyourlimit for more information on setting limits on your lottery play.
