Guidelines for Public Participation at Board of Education Meetings

We welcome public participation in most regular Board of Education business meetings.  A public Board of Education meeting is not the appropriate place to air complaints or personal charges concerning individually identifiable employees or students of the school district.  Please direct such concerns to the appropriate administrator or the Superintendent.

If a member of the audience wishes to speak during Public Comment time they should…

• state their name
• address
• organization represented, if any
• relationship to the schools
• the subject to be addressed.

A total of fifteen minutes may be used for Public Comment time.  A two minute time limit is allowed for each person or organized group.  The board president will notify when one minute remains.  These time limits may be changed by a majority vote of the board members in attendance to extend the time for a specific item or speaker.

An organized group should limit its comments to those of its appointed spokesperson.

During the rest of the meeting, audience members participate in discussion only at the request of the Board President.
