Comstock Continues their Annual 4th of July Celebration

COMSTOCK- Comstock continues their tradition of a 4th of July celebration this year. 

The celebration starts at 7:30 a.m. with the Comstock Road Race. At 8 a.m. is the sand volleyball tournament. To register a team, contact Don Bruha at (308) 215-8053. The Den will have a silent auction from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. 

The parade begins at 10:30 with a lineup at 9:30 on the south end of town. The theme this year is “The Way We Were.” Cash prizes will be awarded to first, second, and third place, and a grand prize will be awarded. 

At noon is the BBQ Meal at the Community Hall. Lunch, pie, and homemade ice cream will be at The Den. At 1:30 in the park are kids races, egg toss, penny shower, and turtle races. 

Maschka’s Sausage Shop will be at the ball park at 4 p.m. along with the cornhole tournament. Cornhole costs $20 per team and to register text Jamie Kozeal at (308) 215-8120. At 7 p.m. are fun activities and ball games at the ball park. To end the day, there are fireworks at dark.

Saturday is alumni day. The museum will be open from 9 to 10:30 a.m. There will be coffee, juice, and rolls at the church fellowship hall. The opening of the time capsule at Centennial Garden Corner is at 10:30 a.m. The banquet for alumni and friends begins at 6 p.m. at the Wescott Baptist Church.

Bob Drake, a member of the Comstock Community Club, says that this celebration is a major event in Comstock.

“It’s always the big thing, our 4th of July. When you line people up for 3 blocks on Main Street, it’s important,” stated Drake.
