A project years in the making is being celebrated in Mason City this weekend. Members of the Mason City First Baptist Church are inviting the public to a building dedication on Sunday morning.
Pastor Scott Harvey spoke with KCNI/KBBN about the process from ground breaking to completion, saying that after breaking ground in the fall of 2022, the addition was worked on for 2 1/2 years. He said that most of the work was done by members of the church as time and money allowed.
Following the first-ever services held in the new space on Easter Sunday, Harvey said they have the great problem of getting used to having more space to utilize.
“Now we had vacation bible school last week,” said Harvey, “To have all the extra room, everything just flows a lot nicer. Our old sanctuary we have turned into our fellowship hall now, so that gives us more room. We have some more room dedicated to classrooms, so yeah, we’re just not bumping into each other everywhere.”
In addition to a sanctuary space, bathrooms and office space were also a final result of the project.
The public is invited to attend a church service at 9:30 AM Sunday morning, followed by fellowship time at 10:30 and the dedication service at 11. A lunch will follow at noon.
The church is located at 687 Prentiss Street, Mason City, NE.
