Area athletes will attempt to qualify for the NSAA state track and field championships next week as they compete in Class D district competition today.
Ansley/Litchfield, SEM, Twin Loup, and Burwell will be among the teams competing at the D-5 district meet in Burwell today while Anselmo-Merna, Mullen, Sandhills Valley, and Sandhills/Thedford will be among the teams competing at the D-8 district meet in Sutherland.
The top two places in all individual running events will qualify for state plus the next six fastest times of the non qualifiers across all nine Class D districts. The top winning team in all relays will automatically qualify plus the next seven fastest times of the non qualifiers across all districts.
In the field events, the top two places in the long jump, triple jump, shot put, and discus will qualify for state plus the next six best performances of the non qualifiers across all nine Class D districts. In the pole vault and high jump, the top two places will automatically qualify plus all who equal or exceed the additional qualifier mark that has been established for this year’s state meet. The automatic qualifying mark is 9′ 2″ in the Class D girls pole vault and 12′ 4″ in the Class D boys pole vault. The automatic qualifying mark in the Class D girls high jump is 4′ 11″ and 6′ in the boys high jump. In the pole vault, competitors must meet the minimum qualifying standard regardless of place. The minimum qualifying height in the girls pole vault is 6′ 6″ and 9′ 6″ in the boys pole vault.
