Custer Public Power District (CPPD) has announced that distribution and transmission pole inspections will begin in the district this week. The pole treating program being used has been proven to help find weak links in the district’s system, which has resulted in fewer outages.
Contracting with SBS Inspection, Inc., approximately 7,000 distribution poles and 30 transmission poles will be inspected.
The Anderson, Gates, Halsey, Safranek, and Weinman substation poles as well as a few poles out of the Callaway and Oconto substations that were inaccessible last year are on the planned list. The Village of Halsey, the Nebraska National Forest at Halsey, and Purdum are all included in this area. Transmission poles to be inspected are located throughout the district’s territory.
After beginning this week, inspections will continue until completed. Customers may notice service pickups or ATVs in pastures and fields as poles are treated and inspected. Workmen have been instructed to respect customer property and fences and to re-close gates when they find them closed.
