Area competitors take home championships, medals at D2 state speech

State speech came to a close with D1 and D2 competition happening throughout the day on Friday in Kearney. Competitors from the KCNI/KBBN listening area brought home top placements in several categories.

As a team, the Arnold team added together their individual scores to achieve 5th place in team competition.

Area competitors took five of the six medal positions in duet acting. Duet acting was particularly strong for Arnold, with Danah Baldwin and Ivy Tullis taking the state championship. Their teammates Anna Tullis and Riata Remund are state runners-up.  Arcadia’s Cambria Calleroz and Colin Rice were fourth, Stapleton’s Cayson Johnston and Daniel Zuniga were fifth, and Ansley’s Kiera Bailey and Garittee Smith came in sixth.

Taking home another state championship for Arnold was Danah Baldwin, who took the top spot in oral interpretation of serious prose.

Stapleton’s Coltan Clouse took home a medal in informative speaking, placing fifth.

In program oral interpretation, James Fletcher of Litchfield took home a sixth place medal.
