Custer County Court was in session on Monday, March 10th, with Judge Tami Schendt presiding.
In court for her first appearance was Airen J. Popham, age 41 of Oconto. Popham is charged with four counts stemming from a February 3, 2025 arrest. Gary Peterson, the defendant’s attorney, announced to the court that a plea agreement had been reached with the State. According to the agreement, the following charges would be dismissed–Count 1, possession with intent to deliver to a minor, a Class II felony; Count 2, child abuse with no injury, a Class IIIA felony; and Count 4, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, a Class I misdemeanor. Popham waived her right to a preliminary hearing on the remaining charge of possession of a controlled substance, a Class IV felony. Judge Schendt bound the case over to Custer County District Court where the defendant will appear for arraignment on March 20th.
Cody Wenzel-Wolsten, age 30 of Sargent, appeared in court for a preliminary hearing. Wenzel-Wolsten faces charges of intentional child abuse, a Class II felony, and assault by strangulation or suffocation, a Class IIIA felony. The defendant waived his right to the preliminary hearing and his case was bound over to District Court where he will appear on March 20th.
