Anselmo-Merna Ends Season at State Tournament
Anselmo-Merna vs Falls City Sacred Heart at Girls State Basketball Tournament

The Anselmo-Merna girls basketball team saw its season come to an end on Thursday as they fell to Falls City Sacred Heart in the opening round of the Class D2 girls state basketball tournament.  The game was close through 2 1/2 quarters as AM trailed by just six, 28-22, with 5:12 remaining in the third quarter but Sacred Heart closed the quarter on a 9-2 run to lead by 13 going into the fourth.  Sacred Heart was 7 of 12 from the field in the final quarter and outscored AM 20-9 in the final eight minutes to pull away for a 57-33 win.  One of the differences in the game was the three point line where Anselmo-Merna was just 1 of 16 and Sacred Heart was 7 of 22.  Senior Makenna Miller led the Lady Coyotes in scoring with a team high 11 points.  Rhianen Myers finished with 9 points and Kayley Klein had 8 points for Anselmo-Merna who finishes the season at 20-6.  Falls City Sacred Heart advances to the state semifinals where they will face Archangels Catholic who defeated St. Mary’s Thursday night 44-38.  On the other side of the D2 bracket, top seed Shelton was knocked off by Wilcox-Hildreth 49-40 and Dorchester edged Silver Lake 38-37.
