Lillian Fire Rekindles – Active Fire Response Underway
Incident Update
The Lillian Fire has a leg of the fire that reignited and is currently burning approximately 6 miles northwest of Broken Bow(this fire has been deemed the East Table Road Fire by Custer County EM Mark Rempe, separate from the original Lillian fire)
Multiple agencies are on scene working to contain the fire.
  • Avoid all county roads north and northwest of Broken Bow unless you are an emergency vehicle. This includes, but is not limited to: Lillian Road, Cramer Canyon Road, and E Table Road
  • Wind direction is pushing smoke and ash toward Broken Bow—residents should be aware of this and is to be expected.
And from Custer County Emergency Manager Mark Rempe:
Fire crews are actively responding to the East Table Road Fire, which ignited early this evening, February 25, 2024. The fire began approximately three miles northeast of Merna, on the east side of East Table Road, and rapidly spread southward through canyons, burning approximately 1.5 miles.
As of now, the fire’s spread has slowed and remains north of Road 805. However, officials are closely monitoring the situation as sustained winds are expected to continue through the night, which could impact fire behavior.
Evacuation Notices & Public Safety
Several residents in the area have been notified to be prepared to evacuate if the fire continues to spread. At this time, no mandatory evacuations are in place, but conditions could change. Residents should remain alert and be ready to act if directed by emergency officials.
Smoke will be visible in the area, and those with respiratory conditions should take precautions. The public is urged to avoid all active fire zones and areas where emergency vehicles and fire crews are operating.
County and private resources have been deployed to assist with containment, including discs, road graders, and dozers to create fire lines as needed. Ground crews are working diligently to manage the fire’s perimeter and prevent further spread.
In addition to the East Table Road Fire, fire crews are also actively monitoring two other fires in the region:
  • Lillian Fire and Eureka Valley Fire: Assets remain on-site, working to monitor and suppress hot spots. Some fire breakouts occurred during the afternoon, but crews have successfully subdued those flare-ups.
