CCSO advises public of new scam

A new scam is hitting the area, according to Custer County Sheriff Dan Osmond.

“they had a pop-up on their computer saying their antivirus was out of date and they needed to fix it or it was going to shut their computer down. Then they call back and say ‘yep this is the Sheriff and this is true and his name is Dan and I know his wife Krista we hang out with them a couple of weeks ago’. So it’s getting down to where they’re just tricking you into believing that it’s real and getting them to give them money to fix things.”

Osmond said if you have anything like this happen, stop by the Sheriff’s Office or call and let them know about it. The number to call is 308-872-6418.
