Area Athletes Qualify for Girls State Wrestling Tournament
The B-1 district had two area state qualifiers in the 170 lb. weight class. Rylee Kursave (ALC) 2nd and Stayci Medina Lopez (BOW) 4th

The Nebraska Girls District Wrestling championships took place around the state this weekend.  The top four in each weight class across all districts qualified for the girls state tournament later this month in Omaha.  Broken Bow, in it’s first season as a girls wrestling program, qualified three individuals for the state tournament from the B-1 district tournament held in Ord.  Zoe Jones finished as district runner up at 115 lbs. to qualify.  Joining her as state qualifiers for Broken Bow were Stayci Medina Lopez (4th at 170 lbs.) and Ida Bumgarner (3rd at 190 lbs.)  The B-1 district also included area representation from Anselmo-Merna and Arcadia/Loup City.  Rylee Kursave of Arcadia/Loup City qualified for state finishing as the district runner up in the 170 lb. weight class.

SEM competed at the B-2 district meet held at Falls City.  The Lady Mustangs had two representatives in the tournament and will now have two representatives at the state tournament later in the month.  Ellie Scoville qualified for state finishing third at 155 lbs.  and Sophia McDonald qualified by finishing 4th in the 170 lb. weight class.

Ansley/Litchfield was among the teams that competed in the B-3 district tournament at Pierce and qualified three individuals for state.  Clysta Brott qualified for state by placing 3rd at 130 lbs.  Jaycee Vogel lost in the quarterfinal round but battled back through the consolation bracket to finish 4th at 140 lbs. and qualify for state.  Morgan Hawkins qualified for state at 235 lbs. finishing as the third place medalist.

Sandhills/Thedford and Sandhills Valley were among the teams that competed at the B-4 district in Bayard.  Sandhills Valley qualified three wrestlers for state.  Chloe Schaefer was runner up at 115 lbs., Saije Phelps was fourth at 120 lbs., and Mariah Duran was runner up at 155 lbs.  Sandhills/Thedford’s Emily Chavez qualified for state finishing as the runner up at 105 lbs.

The girls state wrestling tournament is scheduled for Tuesday (2/18) and Wednesday (2/19) at the CHI Health Center in Omaha.
