Becton Dickinson(BD) partnered with Rise Against Hunger on Friday to pack around 10,000 meal packs that will be sent overseas to help fight hunger in several countries.
About two dozen volunteers gathered at BD’s warehouse in Broken Bow to put together meals for the Rise Against Hunger program.
Plant Manager Dave Berge told KCNI/KBBN Radio what the food packages consist of.
“We got soy and rice and a vitamin packet and then vegetables, freeze-dried vegetables also, that go in there. So it’s a complete nutritious meal for a family. So yeah, it’s really neat”.
BD has been a fixture in Nebraska for many years, and BD Broken Bow is one of the largest producers of blood collection devices that support critical care and clinical applications around the world.
Berge said joining this battle against hunger is a “good chance for us to give back, we’ve got customers all over the globe that use our products that we help, but this is something a little bit more tangible, in terms of feeding empty stomachs.”
Area manager for Rise Against Hunger, Marchay Love, gave instructions to the volunteers and said she always looks forward to coming to work.

“So now I get to do something that is always smiling, always impactful, always making a difference and I don’t hate going to work. I love going to work, even if it’s in a different state, even if it’s in a different country.”
Love is a Dallas native that travels all over the world to help stamp out hunger. She said she does about 70 Rise Against Hunger events each year.
Berge joined the Breakfast Show Friday and mentioned they’re constantly seeking interns from the area and BD has walk-in interviews every other Wednesday. Just call them to find out the next interview date.
