Busy schedule of events ahead for Broken Bow Elks Lodge

Coming off of yesterday’s Memorial Service honoring the Elks members who passed away this past year, the Broken Bow Elks Lodge is continuing to stay busy the upcoming week.

Local Elks member Paul Loy told KCNI/KBBN that the winter coat and clothing drive is going well again this year, and that donations can continue to be taken to the Custer County Chief office through the end of the year. The items are then taken to Community Connection on the square where they are made available for free.

“This is our ninth year and up until this year we had, I can’t tell you the exact number, but it’s 1300 and some coats we’ve given away,” said Loy.

Monetary donations can also be given to the Elks, which Loy said go directly toward the purchase of additional coats.

Tonight, the Elks are in charge of ensuring that Santa and Mrs. Claus are at the Broken Bow square to celebrate with everyone at the Parade of Lights event. Santa will be at the bandstand starting at 4 PM before the start of the parade.

The busy week continues on Saturday with the Elks Hoop shoot, set to start with registration at 8:30 AM. The annual event is open to boys and girls who are between the ages of 8 and 13 by April 1st of 2025. Participants are grouped by age and compete in the free throw contest in hopes of continuing on to state, regional, and national level competition.

Santa and Mrs. Claus will be back in town this Sunday at the Lodge Room of Fiesta Brava from 2 PM to 3:30 PM. Those who attend can decorate cookies, meet Santa and Mrs. Claus and take a break from the busy start to the Christmas season.

Loy thanked everyone who has already donated deer hides to the annual collection that creates gloves for wheelchair dependent veterans. Hides can be taken to Merna Pack or to the box just to the north of Gateway Motors in Broken Bow.
