High School Football Scores – Sandhills/Thedford and SEM Advance to State Quarterfinals

SEM advanced to the six man state quarterfinals with a 54-30 win over Wauneta-Palisade.  Jordan Scoville finished with 82 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns and Maddox Jones had 70 yards rushing on just four carries and 1 touchdown.  (Stats from MaxPreps) The Mustangs advance to the state quarterfinals where they will face Diller-Odell who defeated Leyton 54-26.

Sandhills/Thedford rolled into the state quarterfinals in Class D2 with a 76-26 win over Axtell.  The Knights scored in the opening minute when quarterback Kyle Cox broke loose for a 54 yard touchdown run which set the tone early.  It was the first of six touchdown runs on the night for Cox.  Cox also threw for two touchdowns with completions to Carson Cooksley and Aydyn Hall.  Maurice Robinson scored twice for the Knights who advance to the D2 state quarterfinals where they will face Riverside who advanced with an 84-46 win over Creighton.

Ansley/Litchfield played its first playoff game in six man football on Friday when they traveled to face Silver Lake.  The game started with Silver Lake recovering an onside kick.  The Mustangs drove to inside the A/L 20 but on 4th down and goal Luke Bailey intercepted a pass and returned it 70 yards for a touchdown to put Ansley/Litchfield up early 6-0.  However, Silver Lake responded with 26 unanswered points and led 32-12 at halftime.  After  Silver Lake scored on the first play of the second half, Ansley/Litchfield drove down the field but was held on fourth down and goal from inside the five.  A few plays later, Owen Cunningham ripped the ball away and returned it for a 17 yard defensive touchdown to make the score 40-20 with 3:22 to go in the third quarter but Silver Lake was able to answer with a 65 yard touchdown drive to extend the lead to 47-20.  The Spartans final score of the night came when Luke Bailey connected with Andy Cash on a 9 yard touchdown pass with 4:27 left in the game.  Silver Lake advances to the state quarterfinals with a 47-26 win and will play Hay Springs next.  Ansley/Litchfield concludes its season at 5-4.

In other area action from Friday, South Loup fell to Summerland in the Class D1 playoffs 46-0.  The Bobcats conclude the season at 7-3.  Twin Loup fell to top seed Archangels Catholic 38-0 in the Class D2 playoffs to finish the season at 4-6 overall and Sandhills Valley fell to top seed Sandy Creek in Class D1 76-12 to finish 4-6.
