Custer County Contested Races Will Be Determined on November 5th

As we are well aware, the general election is Tuesday, November 5th. Rather than focusing before the election on the national and state tickets, KCNI/KBBN News is instead highlighting the few contested races here in Custer County.

Among the school board races that will be determined by the election are those for Broken Bow, Sargent, and Arnold. There are five candidates vying for three seats on the Broken Bow School Board—incumbent Amy Staples, Shelly Kelly, Colby Fisher, Amy Tharp, and JD White. For the Sargent School District, incumbents Cory Beran and Cory Grint will face off against Robert Myers and Matthew Dean Smith for three board positions. The only other contested school board race in Custer County is that of the Arnold School District where Bryce Nansel and Kenneth L. Goodenow, Jr. are running against incumbents Justin Strasburg and Duane Bowers for three board seats.

Three of the following will be elected to the Ansley Village Board of Trustees—Scott Rehfeld, Robert Henry, Andy Gibbons, and Joel Schulte. Rehfeld and Henry and incumbents. The Callaway Village Board will also fill two seats. Candidates are incumbent Dan Lewandowski, Clark Griffith, and TJ Elliott. Two from the following slate will also be elected to the Sargent City Council—incumbent Gerry D. Sheets, Michael L. Kozeal, Jacob A. Klein, and Clint Marsh.

A bond issue to construct and equip a new municipal swimming pool and facilities for the City of Sargent is also on the ballot for voters in that community. And, those living in the Cliff Township will vote whether or not to levy a property tax for the purpose of general operations and maintenance of roads.

Polls across Custer County will be open from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. on November 5th. Unofficial results will be available later that night, but results won’t be made official for a few days according to the Custer County Clerk’s Office.
