BROKEN BOW – Red ribbon was cut on Wednesday morning as the Custer Christian School was welcomed to the Broken Bow Chamber of Commerce. Located in the former Custer Elementary School, the private school opened in September.
“This school has been a labor of love. Everybody behind me and beside me have been a huge part of making this school success. I think we started talking about the school about a year ago, now a little over a year,” said Board President Taylor Ruether.
The school will start small, Ruether said. “We actually brought in Little Lights Preschool as a part of Custer Christian School, so they are now Custer Christian School Preschool. So we have two classes of preschoolers, and then we have a kindergarten class this year. We started out small. We wanted to start with the younger grades and as they grow we’ll add on, so each year we’ll add grades to the school.”

Board member James Clang took KCNI/KBBN on a miniature tour of the school, which included both preschool and kindergarten classrooms, a small library, art room, and a general purpose gymnasium that holds activities ranging from lunch and PE to chapel on Fridays.
Community support as the school gets off the ground has been wonderful, Ruether added. “We’ve had several donors that have donated specifically just for scholarships, so they want to be see kids be able to come to school here. So we have scholarship money available for anybody who is interested.”
The Custer Christian School website, which holds information about teachers and staff, mission statements, and a donation portal also displays a graphic that lays out the school’s next five years of budget goals.
