A drive through burger bash benefit is taking place tonight (Thursday, October 17) for area sheriff’s deputy, paramedic, and firefighter Lawrence Stump.
For a free will donation, visitors to the north side of the square in Broken Bow will receive a sack dinner that includes a burger, chips, dessert, and drink. Tickets for a gun raffle for a Winchester Wildcat .22 or $230 will also be sold for a dollar.
All benefits from the event will go to Stump, who has served in several first responder roles across the area for years. In addition to serving with the Custer, Sherman, and Valley County sheriff’s departments, Stump has also been a firefighter in addition to being a paramedic.

Kacey Finney, who has served in ambulance service for more than two decades herself, said that Stump and his wife Renee are both used to working several jobs and would not ask for help on their own.
“Lawrence is married to Renee, she also was an EMT on our department and they both have held several jobs as long as I’ve known them. Lawrence has always held three or four jobs at a time. We usually tell him ‘You need to slow down!’,” Finney laughed.
Stump was originally injured on an ambulance call this last summer, leading to a series of complications including surgeries, side effects, anesthesia, flights to Omaha, a stay in SICU, and being intubated.
Finney said those who visit early at tonight’s event might be able to say hi to Stump, who said he would stop by if he was feeling up to it.
Those unable to attend tonight’s burger bash can help Lawrence by sending money via VENMO to @ReneeJeanSommer or contributing to the benefit account set up at Custer Federal State Bank under his name.
