Ag Society approves raise in winter storage rate, skid steer bucket trade

BROKEN BOW – The Custer County Ag Society held a regular board meeting on Thursday night at the Custer County Fairgrounds. Shane Ryan and Marla Stallbaumer were absent.

President Casey Cooksley told the board of a desire to get a different bucket for the fairgrounds skid steer, citing issues with doing damage and digging too deep both in barns and during snow removal. He said he had contacted Brad White Equipment, who was willing to trade a new low profile bucket that was easier to see over in addition to receiving $450 from the Ag Society. The trade and payment of $450 was approved.

Winter storage rates were discussed Thursday night ahead of the November 1st storage start date. Coming into this winter, the rate has been $1.50 per running foot per month. Storage locations include the north stall barn and the beef show arena. After a discussion about storage rates around the area, the board approved an increase to $2.00 per running foot per month, effective for storage this winter.

In committee reports, Secretary Blair Ryan told the board that sponsorship packets with possible options will be distributed at Sunday’s planning workshop. Charmayne Pop gave the winter ball committee report, saying that the venue has been booked and more work needs to be done to determine the direction they will go for entertainment and ticket cost. Bonnie Winters said she has three bartenders lined up for the January 18th event, which will take place at the Broken Bow Municipal Building.

Just ahead of adjournment, it was stated that November 14th will be the date of a regular meeting as well as an annual meeting that will include elections. Board positions can be filled by nominated individuals who are registered voters in Custer County. Board members serve three-year terms, with terms staggered. Board members with their terms ending include Shane Ryan, Marla Stallbaumer, and Charmayne Pop. Desirei Cook, being a board appointment for an open position mid-term can also be “officially” made a board member at that time.
