It’s another big high school football Friday around the area. In an all area matchup, Anselmo-Merna will host Twin Loup. Both teams enter at 2-4 this season. The Coyotes have collected wins over Chambers Wheeler Central and Burwell in back to back weeks while Twin Loup has collected wins over CWC and Palmer. Anselmo-Merna head coach Troy Gilligan visited with KCNI/KBBN sports this week and talked about last week’s win against Burwell.
“We came out really good in the first half. Went through the game plan, they executed well. Came out of halftime a little bit sluggish to start the second half but they were willing to dig deep there in that final fourth quarter and pull off the win.”
Twin Loup head football Mike Kozeal talked to Central Nebraska’s Sports Source about growing as a young football team this season and continuing to progress in their execution.
“We have to remember that we’re pretty young. We’re playing a lot of young people so we do make mistakes and we try to coach those up right away and we just don’t want to continue to make the same mistakes over and over again. I do believe that we’re getting better and we’re learning.”
Today’s game between Anselmo-Merna and Twin Loup will be broadcast on KBBN 95.3 FM and kbbn.com. Coverage begins with the Consolidated pregame show at 2 p.m. followed by the kickoff at 3 p.m.
