BROKEN BOW – Fire crews were dispatched to calls of a grass fire East of Broken Bow just before 3 PM Tuesday afternoon. The blaze was reported to be near the intersection of Dutchman Valley Road and Highway 70.
KCNI/KBBN observed several Broken Bow grass rigs on scene actively dowsing flames burning in roadside grass. A tanker truck was also near the fire ready to provide support.
Just after 3:30 PM, flames were well within control and units were beginning to head back to their stations. Those remaining on scene as the 4 PM hour approached utilized shovels and a heavy application of water to mop up remaining hot spots. The resulting burnt patch stretched from the highway to the nearest roadside fence, running east/west for a length of 20 or so yards.
Tuesday’s fire comes on the heels of a September that saw just .09 of precipitation measured at the KCNI/KBBN studios in Broken Bow. Extended forecasts for the area are not predicting rainfall in the next week, and several red flag warnings have been active on and off for the area recently. Local fire departments continue to discourage burning of any kind.
More information regarding the fire will be shared if it is made available.
