GRAND ISLAND – Two competitors from the KCNI/KBBN listening area are among those who punched their tickets to compete at the 2024 National Pedal Pull Championships during the Nebraska State Fair in Grand Island.

Kinsley Tucker of Callaway and Saylor Foley, a student at Anselmo-Merna, both found national qualifying success among over 800 competitors at this year’s state championships.

Tucker came away from state competition placed second in the 8 year old girls division. Her cousin, Annie Tucker of Blue Hill, placed fourth in the same age division to also qualify for nationals.

Tucker’s dad, Preston Tucker, told KCNI/KBBN that after winning at the Heritage Days parade in Merna to qualify for state, his daughter decided training for the state fair was needed. She did so by carrying two five gallon buckets of cattle feed and doing walk sits for preparation.

Foley achieved 3rd place in the 7 year old girls division, mustering a full pull on her first go to put her in a pull off with the other two top pullers. Foley’s mom, Tiffany Foley, said this will be Foley’s third trip to nationals, where she placed 8th in 2023 in the six year old girls division.

The 2024 National Pedal Pull Championships will be held September 28 at the Corn Palace in Mitchell, South Dakota. Fifteen states are listed as sanctioned including Colorado, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.
