September calendar is busy at the Broken Bow Library

BROKEN BOW – The Broken Bow Library recently released their September edition of “Library’s Latest”, highlighting what has happened recently and will be happening the upcoming month at the library.

Library Director Megan Svoboda told KCNI/KBBN the library staff is excited for the busy month, which holds some well-known events as well as some new ones.

The scavenger hunt is a library favorite, and Svoboda said that the September iteration has a brand new theme as visitors search for secret letters to spell the secret sentence for a prize.

“This month it is all farm animal related, so that is kind of fun. There’s some cute little farm animals around, hiding in the library,” said Svoboda.

The Broken Bow Library is inviting third through fifth graders to take part in a six week long shark camp on Tuesdays starting on the 10th and going through October 15th at 4 PM. Svoboda said the new idea will have kids exploring the world of sharks through stories, activities, and crafts. Space is limited to 10 participants, so she encouraged contacting the library soon.

The popular Tots and Toys Story Time and Lapsit Story Times will continue in September, as will chair yoga.

Other September events include a visit from Paint Paradise On-the-Go September 5, an Evening Book Club discussion of The Happiest Man on Earth on September 16 at 6:30, the Take a Break Book Club on the 24th at Noon, and a Bring Your Own Craft Night on September 12 at 5 PM.

Svoboda said she’s excited to see the work that continues to be done by the Teen Advisory Board (TAB), who meets this month on September 11.

“So all of our TAB members, they obviously are very interested in the library and invested in the library and what we do for the community. So our kids kind of help pick out books or movies or games and help with the planning of especially the teen activities, what they would like to see happen in the library,” Svoboda explained.

Teased for a while and now finally here is a schedule of free classes offered through a program through UNL. Topics include The Early Days of Nebraska Volleyball 1970-1996, A History of Midwifery: Midwives, Witches and Nurses, The Great Depression: A Different Perspective, and Dementia Caregiving at Home. Those seeking more details or that want to sign up for the limited space classes are encouraged to reach out to the library.

Svoboda also encouraged everyone to mark their calendars for the annual Friends of the Broken Bow Library Book Sale, set for September 27 and 28.

“All of the proceeds from this book sale, all of it goes for just our programming. So all of the activities that you see every month that we do, all of the money that is raised from that book sale or just donations, that’s how we do all of our activities.”
