Funds exceeding the five-digit mark were distributed by the Custer County Salvation Army at the start of last month, according to information provided to KCNI/KBBN. Custer County school districts, the Prairie Pioneer Center, and the Children’s Christmas Fund were among the recipients.
Weekend backpack meal programs put on by the school districts in Broken Bow, Ansley, Anselmo-Merna, Sargent, and Taylor each received checks for $1,000.
The Prairie Pioneer Center in Broken Bow received $2,000 toward their Meals for Recovering Seniors Program, which provides meals to senior citizens who are recovering from hospital stays.
$2,000 also went to the Children’s Christmas Fund, to assist in purchasing hams that will be included in the holiday meals that they deliver.
Emergency clothing funds for students at Broken Bow, Anselmo-Merna, Ansley, Arnold, Callaway, and Sargent each received $200 for the program.
The Custer County Salvation Army regularly distributes funds to area causes, many of which are collected locally through red kettle donations during the holiday season each year.
