Nebraska High School Rodeo Competitors Have Busy Weekend

The Nebraska high school rodeo fall season continued this past holiday weekend with performances in Nelson on Saturday and Sunday and in Grand Island on Monday.

Area highlights on Saturday included, Emmett Sortum of Taylor finishing runner up in the tie down roping with a time of 11.34 seconds and Colton Leach of Dunning also placed in the top five of the event coming in fourth. Other top five finishes from the coverage area included Tate Johnston of Thedford teaming with Colter Austin of Valentine to place fourth in the team roping followed by Korbin Druery of Anselmo and Remi Wells of Central City who placed fifth in the event. Cazen Coffman Smith of Milburn was fifth in the steer wrestling, and Anna Clark of Thedford placed fifth in the barrels.

On Sunday, Colton Leach of Dunning was the champion in the tie down roping with a winning time of 10.37 seconds and Cazen Coffman Smith of Milburn was fifth in the event. Other top area finishes on the day included Jacie Naprstek of Gothenburg runner up in the goat tying and Kallan Cox of Purdum was fifth in the barrels.

On Monday in Grand Island, Tate Johnston of Thedford was the champion in the tie down roping with a winning time of 10.53 seconds and Cayson Johnston of Stapleton was fourth in the event. Cotter Johnston of Stapleton had the fastest time in the steer wrestling at 4.12 seconds followed by Cayson Johnston in second with a time of 7.79 and Cazen Coffman Smith of Milburn was fourth in the steer wrestling. Other top five area finishes on Monday included Jacie Naprstek of Gothenburg fifth in the goat tying. Anna Clark of Thedford was runner up in the barrels on Monday with a time of 16.249 seconds and Emerson Thorberg of Mullen was fifth in the event.
