LINCOLN- KCNI/KBBN was recently honored during the Pinnacle Awards Ceremony at the Nebraska Broadcasters Annual Convention in Lincoln. The Pinnacle Awards program was established in 1958 to recognize and encourage excellence in broadcasting and service to the community by Nebraska radio and television stations.
Taking home the Gold Award in “Best Use of Multimedia Journalism” for radio was Jeremy Shipe, Station Manager of KCNI/KBBN, for “Custer County Cow and Calves Defy the Odds”. In March of this year, Shipe produced this story and video about a cow at the Sterner farm near Merna who gave birth to healthy, lively quadruplet calves.
Station owner and general manager David Birnie complimented Jeremy Shipe for providing a great story about an unusual local event using video and radio. Birnie said Jeremy always puts in one hundred percent effort, no matter the project at KCNI/KBBN.

In the “Best Local Radio Show” category, KCNI/KBBN won the Bronze Award for “The Get Up and Go Breakfast Show”. The Breakfast Show is featured weekdays from 7:30-9:30 a.m. on both KCNI 1280 AM and KBBN 95.3 FM. The show is hosted by David Birnie and Brent Apperson.
Apperson said it was a surprise and honor to be recognized in such a manner and added that the award is shared with all of the local guests who interact with he and Birnie on a daily basis to make the show what it is.
