The Broken Bow American Legion seniors baseball team fell to Central City 8-1 Saturday at the Class B Area 6 tournament. Central City led 1-0 after three innings but then scored six runs in the fourth inning to pull away. Central City had the bases loaded with nobody out to start the inning but it looked like Broken Bow might limit the damage and get out of the jam with the score 2-0 with 2 outs. However, Central City was able to add five runs with two out to extend the lead. The Broken Bow offense was kept in check finishing with 1 run on five hits. Bow’s lone run of the game came in the bottom of the fourth when Brice Chaplin came across the plate to score. Coy Wardyn had two of Broken Bow’s five hits finishing 2 for 3 on the night.
Broken Bow used six pitchers in the game as they tried to navigate through the pitch count rules to keep pitchers available through the remainder of the tournament.
With the loss, Broken Bow drops down to the elimination bracket where they will McCook on Sunday. Central City moves out to the winner’s bracket final where they will face Holdrege who defeated the top seed Minden on Saturday 9-1. Gothenburg stayed alive in the tournament Saturday defeating Doniphan/Trumbull/Giltner in an elimination game 13-2.
The start times to Sunday’s games have been changed from the original schedule. Minden will face Gothenburg in an elimination game at 11 a.m. followed by the winner’s bracket game between Holdrege and Central City at 1:30. The day will conclude with Broken Bow facing McCook in an elimination game at 4 p.m. The Broken Bow / McCook game will be broadcast on KBBN 95.3 FM and kbbn.com.
