The “Spirit of the Sandhills” softball tournament was played in Broken Bow on Saturday and Sunday. The Broken Bow Spirit 18U team went 4-3 over the weekend. Broken Bow fell to the Eagles 18U 6-2 on Saturday in their opening game of the tournament but then came back with back to back wins against the Flames of Nebraska Blazen 16U (4-2) and against NCN Lightning 18U (4-3). On Sunday, the Spirit fell to the Polk County Summer Slammers 9-4 but then came back with a 2-0 win over the Nebraska Dominators 18U as Lily Thornton threw a complete game shutout surrendering just two hits and striking out six. That sent the Spirit into the semifinals of the Silver Bracket where they would face NCN Lightning again. Broken Bow jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first inning but NCN came back to score 5 runs in the top of the third to take the lead. In their final at bat, the Spirit plated two runs for the walkoff victory. Adyson Priest was 2 for 2 in the win with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI. Broken Bow would face the Columbus Havoc in the Silver Bracket championship game. Columbus pitching threw a no hitter shutting out Broken Bow 3-0 to win the Silver Bracket. The 16/18U Gold Bracket champion was North Platte Jr. Belles.
