Big Sky Jubilee 2024 to feature plenty of red, white, and blue

ANSELMO, NE – The annual Anselmo Big Sky Jubilee is this weekend, Friday through Sunday (June 14-16). The theme welcomes a burst of patriotism with the theme “Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue.. A Tribute to Toby Keith”.

The weekend’s activities begin with the Mark Wells Memorial BBQ Pitmaster Challenge. Judging starts at 5:00, a calcutta follows at 6:00, and the BBQ and calcutta winners will be announced at 7:00. At the same time from 5:00 to 9:00 PM, Jump-a-roo bounce houses will be at the ball field along with hot dogs from the Big Sky committee.

Saturday’s activities begin at 8:00 am with a pancake feed to start the day at the fire hall and end with the fireman’s BBQ and watermelon feed as well as live music from Tazy Q. The schedule for the day in between features a variety of activities sure to make memories for all ages including the coed softball tournament, the parade, the tractor pull at the old school yard, obstacle courses and water slides, kid races and games, turtle races, axe throwing and more.

The home stretch of the fun comes about on Sunday with sand volleyball mid-morning, and the annual ranch rodeo calcutta and ranch rodeo. This year will even feature a new event, Pee-Wee stick horse barrel racing for kids six and under with prizes and a belt buckle set to be awarded.

Jeremy Fiorelli and Chris Fiorelli spoke to KCNI/KBBN about the tractor pull event at Noon on Saturday. They said the event is open to a wide variety of tractors and vehicles including stock pickups, mud drag pickups, antique tractors, and farm tractors. Those interested in competing are encouraged to show up in plenty of time before competing that day to get weighed in.

A commemorative Anselmo Big Sky t-shirt is being made available for sale, designed by Leah Ryan. A new take on an old design, details on the shirt highlight Anselmo from the sky to the street. A limited number of shirts will be available at The Market and Mill for purchase, or those wanting a shirt after the Big Sky Jubilee can order online as well.
