Custer County Sheriff’s Office receives $7,000 grant for two in-car cameras

The Custer County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) is receiving grant funding assistance for obtaining two in-car camera systems according to Bill Kovarik, Administrator of the NDOT Highway Safety Office.

Custer County Sherriff Dan Osmond told KCNI/KBBN the grant funding, in the amount of $7,000, will result in better ease of use and improved capability.

“It definitely is going to be better picture quality in how it records. Just the way technology gets better over the years, when we pull up to our office the video will wirelessly transfer into our server. So there’s no more taking out a thumb drive and taking it inside. Our body cams integrate with them. The new body cams that go with them integrate into that and they communicate with each other,” said Osmond.

Nebraska has qualified for highway safety impaired driving incentive funds. The NDOT Highway Safety Office has utilized this funding to aid local area law enforcement in obtaining in-car cameras and alcohol testing equipment used to assist in the apprehension and conviction of impaired drivers.

“This funding and the ongoing persistence of law enforcement personnel continues to impact impaired driving crashes and the resulting injuries and fatalities,” Kovarik said.
