The Broken Bow City Council met on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, with all Council members present. Several new business agenda items came before the Council, including unanimous approval of the Mayoral appointment of Jennifer Waterhouse to the position of Broken Bow City Clerk. Waterhouse had been serving as the City’s Treasurer. Also under new business, the Council approved closing of some downtown streets from 6:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 2nd for the Nebraska Rod and Custom Association Tour that will be traveling through Broken Bow. A public hearing was held for Ordinance 1278 that would designate a handicap parking stall on the northeast corner of South 8th Avenue and South C Street. The three readings of the ordinance were waived and the ordinance was approved. In the last item of business before the Council, they approved giving temporary authority to the City Administrator from now until June 1st to close South C Street between South 9th and 10th Avenues and the adjacent sidewalk as needed during the upcoming roof work on the Municipal Building. During Mayor and Council comments, Mayor Sonnichsen said that a committee, currently consisting of three citizen volunteers, the City Administrator, the City Attorney, and himself, will soon meet in order to review necessary changes regarding the application for mobile food vendors. The Council’s next meeting is Tuesday, April 9th.
