Unclaimed property just an online search away for Nebraskans

LINCOLN- A recent release from Treasurer Tom Briese announced that the 2024 Unclaimed Property Annual Report is being published in 16 Nebraska newspapers. The publishings began March 9 and continue through March 24.

Nebraskans can also visit nebraskalostcash.nebraska.gov/ to see the online database, which is constantly updated. Lost or misplaced property can include items like bank accounts, contents of safe deposit boxes, wages, insurance benefits, security deposits, stock dividends, and other funds.

The 2024 report represents $17 million in new unclaimed property for the owners listed within the publication. It is appearing as a 48-page tabloid insert, as required by State Statute.

“This is a great way for Nebraskans to check to see if they, their business or their friends or family may have property they are entitled to. Nearly 1 in 5 Nebraskans have some sort of Unclaimed Property held by my office, and we want to get it back to the rightful owner,” Briese said.

Visitors to the online database can start their search with their last name or business name. Items that have remained unclaimed for three years or more are on the report total.

In 2023, more than 22,000 claims were paid out totaling more than $17 million. The unclaimed property website indicates that more than $265 million has been returned total over the years.
