NEBRASKA – From the National Weather Service, most of Nebraska is in a wind chill warning until noon on Tuesday, and wind chills are expected to be as low as 30 to 45 below through Tuesday morning.
Very cold wind chills are expected late Thursday night through Saturday morning. the wind chill temperature is the temperature it feels outside to people and animals. Frostbite can develop in as little as five minutes on exposed skin, so be sure to bundle up.
The best way to avoid frostbite or hypothermia is to stay warm and indoors, but for some that is just not an option. It is recommended to wear many layers of loose-fitting, lightweight, warm clothing. When working outside, layers can be removed to avoid sweating. Outer garments should be water-repellent and hooded. Hand and feet warmers and wool socks should also be worn to help retain heat in the body.
Remember it is better to be bundled up and stay healthy and safe and potentially lose an extremity to frostbite.
