Douglas C Yates was born November 19th, 1956, to Roy C and Loena (Cochran) Yates in Oregonia, Ohio. He passed away at his home in Broken Bow Ne on Sunday, January 7th, 2024. He was 67 years old.
Doug graduated from Norwood High School with the class of 1974 and then attended college studying computer programming.
Doug was united in marriage to Jeannine Ward on August 29, 1980. A year later, their first child, Eric Douglas, was born. Three years after that, they welcomed a daughter, Chrystal Jean, to the family.
Doug worked in his field of study beginning in the early 80s at CinCom in Cincinnati. After several years, the family moved to Batesville, Indiana, where he was employed by Hill-Rom. Doug was later offered the opportunity to work for IBM in Boulder, Colorado, so the family moved again. He finally found his way to Broken Bow, Nebraska moving for the last time in October of 1995. He was employed by Adams Land and Cattle and was an Associate Minister and the Music Director at First Christian Church as well. He eventually spent several years at BD.
Doug learned to play and love the piano at a very young age. He was a member of the local band, Better Than Bingo, and he played many events with them over the next several years. He loved music of all kinds.
Doug also had a passion for flying, earning his pilot’s license before he got his driver’s license. Motorcycles were another interest, but an accident in 2013 ended his riding and resulted in the loss of use of his hands.
In 2017, Doug experienced kidney failure and began dialysis. The next year, he was blessed with a successful kidney transplant, experiencing no rejection or other difficulties.
Doug is survived by his wife Jeannine, his son Eric and his wife Marcy (Mooney), all of Broken Bow and his daughter Chrystal, and her husband Richard Fancella of Pittsburgh PA. along with grandchildren Isabel, Maddison and Zander Yates, and Caleb and Connor Fancella and a host of family and friends.
Services are at 10 am, Saturday, January 13, 2024, at Third City Christian Church, Broken Bow campus, with Mel Sheppard officiating, and lunch to follow. Burial will be at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the family for later designation.
