CUSTER COUNTY – While Nebraskans are preparing for an arctic blast to come their way, there are many tips and tricks to help keep electric bills in check.

From the Department of Energy, you can keep your energy bills at an affordable price by covering and repairing windows, replacing central heating filters regularly, and choosing energy-efficient appliances.
With such cold weather coming into play, it is always best to keep in mind that power outages may happen and it is important to report power outages to the correct personnel. It’s also a good idea to keep candles, flashlights, and blankets on hand in case power does go out.
Peak energy use is easy to reach when conditions reach temperatures such as those forecasted. In a Facebook post, Custer Public Power shared other tips you can take to keep that electric bill low include lowering your thermostat a couple of degrees, turning off and unplugging non-essential lights and appliances, letting the sun in during the day and closing curtains and blinds at night, and closing doors and vents in unused rooms.
Custer Public Power customers are invited to call 1-888-749-2453 to let them know if you are planning on using a generator. You’re encouraged to have your account or meter number ready when you call.
