School Board Recap: January 18

BROKEN BOW – The Broken Bow School Board held its monthly meeting on Monday, December 18 at 6:00 p.m. in the high school. All members were present.

The Board started by approving the minutes of the previous board meeting and listening to Treasure reports and claims.

JB Atkins stated that the expenditures were up along with revenue from this point last year so they even each other out. Year-to-date expenses are about $200,000 ahead of last year.

For Administrator Comments, Darren Tobey spoke about the timeline for the construction of the school since the bond did pass.

“So we had our first construction meeting last week. We talked about phasing which projects to tackle first. A lot of debate on what we can give up first, which priorities can we live without which can’t we live without. We really won’t have a whole set of drawings until May or June,” said Tobey. “So it’s gonna take them six months to really start drawing up these things.”

The initial construction will begin in March or April and will include the tear-down of the current maintenance shop and the AG/welding area so construction can start right away in the summer.

“In the summer the HVAC will be updated in the AB building. So their hope is that with the CTE building, they will be done by Christmas of next year and the auditorium will be done around Christmas next year as well,” said Tobey.

The bond resolution was signed by all six board members.

The financial audit was done and Jeff Oeltjun stated that it was all good and clean.

Under District Accolades, Pam Holcomb and Tim Chancellor spoke about Holiday Notes and stated that the kids sounded amazing.

The Board approved policies 1001, 1002, and 1003 along with approving Breanna Kaup’s counseling contract which will allow Breanna to give counseling services to North Park students for $150 an hour until May 13, 2024.

The next work session meeting will be on January 5 at noon and the next board meeting will be held on January 15 at 6:00 p.m. in the high-school.
