4-H Recognition Program to be held in Broken Bow

The 2023 4-H Recognition program for Custer County will be held on November 19 at the 4-H Building in Broken Bow.  Sponsors for the event are Arrow Seed Co., Inc., Nebraska State Bank & Trust Co., and Nebraska Extension in Custer County.

The program will begin at 2:00 p.m.  The purpose of the program is to recognize  4-H’ers, leaders, and volunteers with awards for their various efforts in club work and 4-H activities.  Some of the awards being presented are “Friend of 4-H,” Outstanding 4-H Leader, best all-around exhibitors, the Leo C. Cooksley Memorial Award, the Joyce Clarke Memorial Community Service Award, and various other honors.  Two and five-year members will receive membership pins. 4-H leaders will receive recognition for their years of service.  The results of the 4-H Council election will be announced.  Cookies and a drink will be provided by the Custer County 4-H Council following the award presentations.

4-H COUNCIL MEETING SCHEDULED

The Custer County 4-H Council will meet on Sunday, November 19 at the 4-H Building in Broken Bow.  The meeting will be held following the clean-up from the 4-H Recognition program.  A meeting agenda will be posted at the Custer County Courthouse in Broken Bow, after November 13.  The business meeting is open to the public.

MARTHA AND DON ROMEO SCHOLARSHIP

The Nebraska Association of Fair Managers will award two special scholarships.  Two Martha and Don Romeo Scholarships worth $500 each will be awarded to one 4-H girl and one 4-H boy who are graduating seniors in the state of Nebraska and who plan to continue with post-high school education.

Each applicant must have exhibited his/her 4-H projects in a county fair or at the State Fair within the last four years.  Applicants must hold a 2.5 high school grade point average (based on a 4.0 system).  Each applicant must also maintain a 2.5 GPA for the first semester in college and carry at least 12 credit hours.  Applicants must agree to apply the scholarship funds for tuition or fees at a two or four-year college, or its equivalent.  Each applicant must have demonstrated support for his/her school and community.  Applicants must exhibit, during the application process, a desire to achieve the goals of which he/she is capable.  Financial needs will not be considered in the selection process.

One male and one female finalist will be selected from each county and submitted to the Nebraska Association of Fair Managers for the final selection process.  Applications from Custer County high school seniors are due at the Custer County Extension Office by November 30, 2023.  No late entries will be accepted.  Scholarship winners will be announced at the Nebraska Association of Fair Managers Annual Convention in January 2024.
