With hunting season being right around the corner, getting refreshed on hunter safety is of key importance in making sure everyone gets home safely.

According to the Nebraska Game and Parks, Hunter Education is required to be taken by everyone ages 12-29. All Nebraska Hunters must carry proof of completion of the Firearm Hunter Education Course if hunting any species with a firearm or air gun.

Any firearm hunter aged 11 or younger must be accompanied by a licensed adult 19 years of age or older.

Dan Osmond, the Custer County Sheriff told KCNI/KBBN about ethical practices with hunting and what you should do in an emergency.

“You shoot the game that you are there to shoot and you do it properly.Just knowing what you are going to do in an emergency. A small first aid kit could be the difference between something you can maybe fix something while you are out in the field rather than bleeding all over the place or having something go wrong or something like that. It isn’t going to hurt to have it, they’re pretty cheap and they’re not that heavy so it isn’t going to weigh you down.”

Letting someone know where you are is always important also.

Don’t forget to add orange onto your hunting attire to ensure visibility and to comply with legal regulations.
