BROKEN BOW- In a news release Thursday, Crossroads Mission Avenue announced plans to expand their services to Broken Bow in the form of a thrift store at 440 S 8th Avenue, the location that was home of the recently-closed Bow Booterie shoe store.

The release states that the location in Broken Bow will supply an option for purchasing low-cost clothing and household goods, as well as an opportunity for Custer County residents to recycle their unneeded items by donating to the store. Proceeds from the Mission Avenue Thrift Store are then passed on to directly support providing meals and care for the homeless and needy throughout Central Nebraska.

Job training experiences for Crossroads’ guests will be offered, as well as employment and volunteer opportunities for the community. The non-profit is also investigating establishing partnerships in order to offer food services to Custer County as well.

Daniel Buller, Executive Director for Crossroads Mission Avenue, said he is excited to see the addition to Custer County happen.

“Crossroads Mission Avenue continues to establish a presence throughout Central Nebraska, not only with homeless shelters currently in Hastings, Kearney, and Grand Island but other facilities in new cities – the most recent being Broken Bow  Mission Avenue Thrift. Crossroads’ expansion in the region is an effort toward homelessness prevention. These expansion efforts are meeting the needs of food insecurities, creating local career opportunities, supporting low-income families, and providing sustainable recycle opportunities, while continuing to support our efforts of sustaining such a great Christian organization which has been called “home” by almost 1,000 people who were homeless in the region throughout 2023 so far,” said Buller.

Crossroads Mission Avenue has been serving our homeless and needy neighbors in Central Nebraska for 40 years, with locations in Kearney, Grand Island, and Hastings.  Each campus provides emergency shelter and transitional housing. It is anticipated that well over 70,000 nights of stay will be provided for needy Nebraskans at Crossroads’ campuses in 2023.
