The Custer County Museum is hosting a research workshop this Saturday at 1pm.
Tammy Hendrickson, the Curator of the Custer County Museum told KCNI/KBBN what this workshop entails.
“So our research class and afternoon in the archives will cover a lot of different things. We will talk about making research plans and goal setting, using deductive reasoning to figure out which is your person. We’ll go through what the Court House has for what we use for the register of deeds, the marriages, the city index, the rural index, citizenship, any of that type of things and how to look them up.”
The museum has computers available that will be logged into different research websites. One of the websites that is available is nebraskaccess.nebraska.gov. A perk of being a Nebraskan for this database is that you only need your driver’s license number to log onto the website. There is no cost.
Anyone can benefit from this workshop, especially students or 4-H kids that are doing research projects, or people just wanting to learn about their roots.
Hendrickson also said that volunteers are always needed and welcome.
“And as far as a volunteer opportunity, getting these files ready for that or scanning them, or sorting them or clipping, those pieces all have to come from somewhere. And I always have a volunteer need to do those different things.”
For more information on this event or any questions regarding genealogy or how to start your research, you are invited to call the Custer County Museum at (308) 872-2203, check out their website at custercountymuseum.org or their Facebook page titled Custer County Historical Society/Museum and Research Center.
There is no cost for this workshop, the only thing you need to bring is some information you have on family members, or whatever it may be you are researching.
