Custer County Ag Society approves 2023-2024 budget

The Custer County Ag Society called their September 14th meeting to order at 7:05 pm Thursday night in the shooting sports building at the fairgrounds, opening with the budget hearing.

One change was made to capital improvements, from $19,833.35 to $125,000 with the anticipation of upcoming projects. The change passed unanimously.

The budget hearing was closed at 7:16 pm, followed by the board voting unanimously to pass a 2023-2024 budget of $178,000.

In new business, a short discussion was had regarding the suggestion that members of the board be reimbursed for their time going above and beyond what their normal board duties call for. Keeping track of hours for an hourly pay was suggested. A statement made about not minding putting in the time but getting paid for gas to get to and from the grounds was met with many nodding heads. The IRS standard mileage rate of 65.5 cents per mile was touched on before the conversation ended with no action taken.

Administrator Michelle Nelson asked about the possibility of moving the planning meeting from January to October in order to help in getting contracts out, to which the board agreed unanimously to set Sunday October 1 at 3:00 pm as the new date.

The board entered executive session just before 7:45 pm.
