South Loup Hosts Sandhills/Thedford for Top Ten D2 Battle on Friday

The KBBN 8 man area football game of the week features a top ten matchup in Class D2 as undefeated South Loup hosts undefeated Sandhills/Thedford on Friday night in Arnold. Both teams have been impressive to start the season with South Loup collecting wins over Elm Creek, Maywood Hayes Center, and Hitchcock County while Sandhills/Thedford has opened the season with wins over Burwell, Hitchcock County, and Twin Loup. Both teams bring a strong running game to the table with South Loup averaging 325 rushing yards per game and Sandhills/Thedford averaging 291 rushing yards per game. South Loup head coach Mat Jagelar told KCNI/KBBN sports that it will be a battle in the trenches as both teams try to establish the run.

“It’s going to be a battle, that’s just it.  Both sides of the ball – offensive lines, defensive lines are very good.  I think whoever can come out and establish the run that will be a very key point into the game.”

This week marks the midway point of the regular season for classes D1 and D2.  When asked what has been the biggest improvement from week one to now, Sandhills/Thedford head coach Tyson Cox told KCNI/KBBN sports that it has been the way the team has come together.

“They’re coming together as a team.  In practice they’re focused.  We talk out a lot of blocking schemes and they’ve come together as a unit more every week I think.”

Friday’s game will be broadcast on KBBN 95.3 FM and kbbn.com. Coverage begins at 6 p.m. with the Consolidated pregame show.  Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
