Fall Sports Preview – Sandhills/Thedford Football

The Sandhills/Thedford football team is coming off another highly successful season finishing 7-1 in the regular season last year and qualifying for the D2 state playoffs ending with an 8-2 overall record.  Tyson Cox enters his second year as head coach.  Cox took time to visit with KCNI/KBBN radio and shared what he learned from last year in being a head coach for the first time.

“You know the game probably slowed down for me because I had never had to call the plays you know.  I was always there for moral support more than anything.  Able to just slow it down and recognize the situations that we were in as a team.”

Coach Cox said he has been very pleased with the focus his players have shown so far in fall camp.

“They’re very focused.  They show up to work.  Football has always been a big thing at Sandhills/Thedford so they take it serious and they go to work when it’s practice time.”

Cox said one of the keys to meeting their full potential is the same as it is for many teams and that is to stay healthy.

“If we can stay healthy.  You probably get that answer a lot to that question.  Especially in D2.  We’ve got some depth but your always one injury away from being in trouble maybe.”

Sandhills/Thedford will play in the D2-9 district this year with South Loup, Mullen, Anselmo-Merna, Hyannis, and Leyton.  The Knights will open their season August 24th when they play host to Burwell.  Sandhills/Thedford will be featured on KBBN radio September 8th when they play at Twin Loup, and September 15th at South Loup.
