Final horse show counts are in from 2023 Custer County Fair

BROKEN BOW – Custer County 4-H has just finished compiling the 2023 Custer County Fair Horse Show results. 4-H kids from all across the county competed in 20 different horsemanship categories throughout the fair.

The Senior High Point Champion was Alex Berghorst, who wrangled 47 total points. Berghorst also claimed the Grand Champion crown in Ranch Pleasure, Ranch Riding, Senior Reining, and Senior Barrels, as well as the Reserve Champion title in Goat Tying and 4 & 5 Year Mare Halter.

The Junior High Point Champion was Paizley Zutavern. Zutavern came away with 67 points in addition to a Grand Champion title in Junior Ranch Riding, Junior Working Ranch Horse, English Pleasure and Equestrian, a Halter crown in both 6 to 10-Year-Old and 2-Year-Old Geldings and Mares 11 & Over, and Junior Ranch and Western Pleasure. Zutavern also took home Reserve Champion honors in Junior Poles, Barrels, and Junior Trail.

Paizley would also bring home the Overall Reserve Champion Mare and Overall Grand Champion Gelding crowns.

The Pre-Junior High Point Champion was Harper Zutavern, who earned 64 points over the events, including Grand Champion honors in Pre-Junior Barrels and Poles, Pre-Junior Showmanship, Pre-Junior Western Pleasure, Reining, and Trail. Harper also earned a championship title in Pre-Junior Working Ranch Horse and was the Girls’ Speed Event Champion with 23 points.

The Jerry Eberle Memorial Super Horse Buckle went to Justin Rosentreader and his 46 points, and the Overall Grand Champion Mare would belong to Lucy Martin. The Overall Reserve Champion Gelding of the fair was Lilly Jonas’s. A full list of horse show results can be found below.
