53rd Tuffy Winberg BBQ as hotly-anticipated as ever

BROKEN BOW – For over 50 years, one of the most anticipated events during the Custer County Fair has been the Tuffy Winberg Free Pit BBQ.

This year, once again, volunteers will go whole hog on digging the pits and smoking the meat to feed, without exaggeration, a quarter of Custer County’s population.

The 53rd installment of the meal starts at 5:30 p.m. and goes until 7, and is entirely free thanks to the efforts of countless, tireless volunteers. Hungry fairgoers should plan to arrive and line up near the Shooting Sports Building on the fairgrounds as soon as possible.

The BBQ will feature the famous beef sandwiches, beans, chips, water and tea, and Dilly Bars provided by Dairy Queen. For the fairgoer on the go, an on-wheels option is available by calling Jami Anderson in advance at (308) 870-0735.
