Salvation Army gives $15,000 to area schools during annual backpack giveaway

BROKEN BOW – The Custer County Salvation Army distributed its 4th Quarter project checks on Monday, July 24, and held its annual Backpack/School Supplies giveaway.

This year, 133 students from 7 communities attended and received backpacks and school supplies. The budget for the program was $3500.

Check presentations were also made:  $250 each went to Ansley, Anselmo-Merna, Arnold, Broken Bow, Callaway, and Sargent Schools for emergency clothing for children.

A thousand dollars each went to Ansley, Anselmo-Merna, Broken Bow, Sargent & Loup County Taylor for their Weekend Backpack programs; the food from the programs goes to families in need.

The Prairie Pioneer Center was given $2000 for its Meals for Recovering Seniors program, and $3000 went to the Children’s Christmas Fund for hams to be given to families during Christmas.

All told, the Salvation Army donated $15,000 to area organizations’ projects.

The Custer County Salvation Army, in a statement, thanked the county, its organizations, and residents for the continued support of the chapter.
