Broken Bow Defeats Ogallala and Advances to Championship Round of B6 Area Tournament

The Broken Bow American Legion seniors baseball team advanced to the championship round of the B6 area tournament with a win over the #2 seed Ogallala Sunday in McCook.

Broken Bow remained undefeated in tournament play Sunday handing Ogallala its first loss of the double elimination tournament.  Broken Bow scored a run in their first at bat and added another in the third inning to take the early lead but Ogallala came back with two runs in the bottom of the third to tie the game 2-2.  Broken Bow quickly took the lead back with two runs in the fourth inning and then erupted for 5 runs in the sixth inning on their way to a 9-4 win.  Max Denson delivered an outstanding starting pitching performance for the Bow seniors. Denson went five innings before he hit his maximum pitch count.  Denson gave up just 2 runs on 2 hits and struck out 12.  Caden Holm closed out the game pitching two innings of relief giving up 2 runs on just 1 hit and struck out three.  Eli Coble and Max Denson sparked the offense at the top of the lineup.  Coble finished 2 for 4 with 3 runs scored and 1 RBI in the leadoff spot and Denson, hitting in the #2 spot, went 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored and 3 RBI.  Gavin Goodner also had a multi hit game finishing 2 for 3 with 2 RBI.

With the win, Broken Bow advances to the championship round and will not play again until Tuesday.  Broken Bow needs just one more win to claim the tournament championship while their opponent would have to beat Broken Bow twice.  Bow’s opponent is yet to be determined.  Ogallala will face Holdrege Monday night with the winner advancing to face Broken Bow for the championship.  Holdrege trailed McCook 4-0 after five innings on Sunday but scored 3 runs in the sixth and scored 6 runs in the 7th to take a 9-5 lead into the bottom of the 7th.  McCook loaded the bases with one out in the 7th but failed to score as Holdrege held on for the win.

Tuesday’s championship round is scheduled to start at 5:30.  Tuesday’s game(s) will be broadcast on KBBN 95.3 FM and kbbn.com.
