The Broken Bow American Legion juniors baseball team saw their season come to an end Tuesday falling to Minden in the elimination round of the Class B Area 6 tournament.
It was a pitcher’s duel through the majority of the game. Broken Bow scored a run in the bottom of the first inning to take an early lead and scored another in the fifth to take a 2-0 lead into the sixth. In the sixth, Minden took advantage of some Broken Bow miscues opening the door for a 7 run inning with all 7 runs coming unearned. Broken Bow tried to put a rally together in the bottom of the 7th loading the bases with no out but Bow would score only two runs as Minden held on for a 7-4 win.
Brice Chaplin helped lead the offense driving in three of Bow’s four runs going 2 for 4 with a single and a double. Coy Wardyn was 3 for 4 with 2 runs scored and Isaac O’Brien also had a multi hit game finishing 2 for 3. The Broken Bow Juniors Post 126 ends their season at 14-11.
With the win, Minden advances to the championship round of the tournament where they will face Holdrege. Holdrege is undefeated in the tournament and needs one win to win the tournament title. Minden would have to defeat Holdrege twice to win the championship. The tournament champion advances to the state tournament in Alliance which begins Saturday July 15. Game one of a possible doubleheader is scheduled for 5 p.m. Wednesday at Broken Bow’s Paul Brown Field.
