Litchfield’s “Old Settler’s Picnic” promises to make hometown memories, as theme suggests

LITCHFIELD – Litchfield’s annual Old Settler’s Picnic is “Making Hometown Memories” this year.

The festival starts off on Friday, July 7 with the dessert contest. The age groups are 16 and under and 17 and older. Drop off your goodies at the Winters Building by 4:00. Following the contest will be the firemen’s BBQ where they will serve the desserts alongside the BBQ meal. That starts at 5:00 and goes until 7:00. It is a freewill donation.

The Litchfield Rockin’ Kids 4-H group will be serving homemade ice cream at the Christian Church from 6 until the start of the variety show at 7. To enter the show, contact Jeralynn Moser at (308) 750-5118.

The co-ed slow-pitch softball league kicks off their first game of the season at 8 p.m. To finish off the day at 10 is the firework show put on by the Litchfield Volunteer Fire and Rescue and Litchfield Community Club.

Saturday starts off at 7:30 a.m. at the park with the Boot Scootin’ Cowboy 2-mile Run sponsored by the Litchfield FBLA. To register, contact Kaitlin Goff at (308) 293-9902 or register online with the Spartan Foundation.

At 10:30 is the parade. The theme is “Making Hometown Memories”. Register and check in at Litchfield Public Schools by 10:00. The route will start at the school, go down Main Street, and turn east to go around the park.

Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Winters Building with a freewill donation for St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church and pizza will be sold in the park by the community club.

11:00-4:00 there will be lots of fun in the park. Events include inflatable water slides, a dunk tank, a horseshoe tournament, a cornhole tournament, and turtle races. To sign up for the horseshoe tournament contact Jim Fletcher at (308) 293-2217. To sign up for the cornhole tournament contact Kaitlin Goff. For both tournaments, there will be a $20 entry fee and a cash payout for the winners.

There will be a free concert at 2 with Litchfield native Rodney Hiser at the Christian Church. There will be a free will donation for the church.

Smokin’ on Main starts at 6:30. Pre-sale tickets are available for $20 for adults and $10 for kids ages 6 to 12. Kids 5 and under are free. Tickets at the gate for adults are $25. The Beer Garden and Street Dance is 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. provided by The Den. Live music from Eli Schroder from 8:30-10 and Wicked Twisted Road from 10-2.

The final day, Sunday, offers church service in the park at 10. At 9 a.m. the sand volleyball tournament starts at the ball field. Concessions will be provided by the Litchfield Rockin’ Kids 4-H club. Contact Cole Lewandowski at (308) 390-1830 to register. It costs $60 per team. To end the fun, the Dads, Lads, and Lassies trap shoot at 1:30. A full schedule of the weekend is attached.
